Using iPod Touch to play music over AirTunes

Sep 5, 2007   //   by Pema   //   Uncategorized  //  8 Comments

Along with everyone else, I’m pretty excited about the new iPod Touch.

I use my phone to listen to music when I’m wondering around town, but I’m excited about the Touch as a kind of mini, ultra portable PC. I figure I could use it for all the little things I do on the web around home without having to open up my laptop. Things like checking the weather, looking up a google map before running out the door, reading a facebook message…

The other big use I can see for the Touch is playing music over my AirTunes network. We have some bookshelf speakers plugged into an AirTunes router in the living room and that is the main way we listen to music at home. I love the flexibility we have to play whatever we like, but I hate having to open up my laptop to do it – I always get unintentionally lost in email for hours. Wouldn’t it be great if I could dial up iTunes on the Touch and play something over AirTunes?

Now, my research thus far has not turned up any conclusive prof this is actually possible, I’m just jumping to conclusions based on the fact the Touch has iTunes and a wifi connection. I’ll do some more digging and update this post as soon as I can get to the bottom of this.

Cool concepts beat big budgets

May 3, 2007   //   by Pema   //   Uncategorized  //  3 Comments

My lovely wife sent me a couple of videos from the new Feist record yesterday. I thought I’d share them here.

Both are really imaginative, fun little clips that add a lot to the songs. I’m sure they weren’t cheap to produce, but compared to other videos being made these days I’ll bet they were well below average.

This is an example of a great concept (for a music video in this case) easily standing up against much bigger budget affairs. For the last few years I’ve been predominantly working on projects with smaller budgets and, more often than not, I’ve loved the restriction. What do they say about necessity being the mother of invention?

The brilliance of Michel Gondry

Feb 3, 2007   //   by Pema   //   Uncategorized  //  No Comments

I finally watched Science of Sleep tonight – and loved it. Reminded me how much I like the work of Michel Gondry (he wrote and directed Science of Sleep).

Also reminded me to watch one of my favorite music videos again – Star Guitar by the Chemical Brothers and directed by Michel. Here you go…

This sounds like the party to be at tonight in Toronto…

Feb 2, 2007   //   by Pema   //   Toronto  //  No Comments

Torontoist writes that tonight at 6pm Überave will be storming the hilarious Microsoft Vista promotional ice house to throw a party. Make sure you’re there right at 6pm though – I figure I’ll take security about 5 minutes to shut it down. Good luck Uberave!
